Going To The Dentist For A Tooth Fix Is Easier Now

Yes, yes… we know, going to the dentists for a tooth fix can be very hard on the system. After all, you are already in pain from one dentition problem to the other. And then you have to do your time suffering quietly in the reception area as well.
And then the dentist will poke into your mouth and do stuff while you squirm in pain. And after all that torture, you end up with a bill too!

Yes, we can certainly sympathize… with the dentist, that is. If you are going to the dentist’s office for a tooth fix with this kind of mindset, then you are already making it harder for both of you. Dentists are trained oral care experts, and their profession has certainly evolved dramatically since the Dark Ages. Having a tooth fix isn’t as dramatic as you imagined it to be. In fact, it is even a lot easier now.

For one thing, many general dentists, as well as cosmetic dentists practice sedation dentistry now. This practice, also known as sleep dentistry was developed specifically for possible patients who have that ingrained fear of going to the dentist in the first place. Not all patients opt for this kind of treatment though; the braver ones are content to trust their dentist to do a fine job (and so should you.)

Despite its name, patients are not really conked out for a tooth fix during sleep dentistry. Rather, patients are eased into a more sedentary state, which helps relax the muscles of jaws. This alone helps the dentist work faster, since a slack jaw is better “work area” than a tense one. The patient, by the way, is always conscious during the entire tooth fix process.

Also, with modern technology and medications, having your tooth or teeth fixed isn’t that complicated or that painful anymore. A dental assistant can take x-rays of your teeth so that the dentist doesn’t have to poke around your mouth so much. However, a dentist has to still work within your oral cavity to get to the bottom of the problem.

Often, a troublesome tooth can be eased by a simple cleaning procedure or patching with a dental amalgam. It may sound strange to you, but dentists rather prefer preserving the original state of the mouth and will try to save a tooth at all cost. However, in cases when the tooth decay is already too severe, the dentists will opt for exodontias instead.

Exodontia or tooth extraction isn’t even that dramatic anymore. With modern medications now that can really eliminate pain in a localized area, the dentist can pull a tooth in a heartbeat. In more complicated cases of tooth extraction, like when the offending tooth crumbles into pieces during extraction, or when an impacted wisdom tooth needs to erupt, the dentist is bound to give the patient all the necessary medications necessary due to a patient on his way to surgery.

After all, tooth extraction is a form of oral surgery, and there is a great need to stop the pain and possible bleeding during the operation. The service does not end there. The dentists will give you further advice as to how to take care of yourself after the operation (no heavy lifting, soft diet only, etc.) And more importantly, the dental pro will advise you as to how to avoid the problem in the first place. Trust us, preventive measures are the best pain-free ways of combating dental problems.
